Information of how these plans would work are vague. Democrats said the new expense would provide Mnuchin and the Fed overall discretion about how the money would be dispersed, with little openness or oversight. They criticized the proposal as a "slush fund," which Mnuchin and Donald Trump could use to bail out preferred companies. News outlets reported that the federal government would not even need to recognize the aid recipients for approximately six months. On Monday, Mnuchin pushed back, stating individuals had misinterpreted how the Treasury-Fed collaboration would work. He may have a point, however even in parts of the Fed there may not be much interest for his proposition.
